Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great, was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon and a member of the Argead dynasty. Born in Pella in 356 BC, he succeeded his father, Philip II, to the throne at the age of twenty.

Alexander's military campaigns extended from Greece to India. He is considered one of history's most brilliant and successful military commanders. He conquered the Persian Empire, including regions of Anatolia, Egypt, and Persia itself.
