What is 22mrf?

22MRF (or 22 Magnum Rimfire) is a type of ammunition cartridge used in firearms. It was introduced by Winchester in 1959 as a more powerful alternative to the standard 22 Long Rifle cartridge. The 22MRF cartridge uses a .224 inch bullet and a rimmed case that is slightly longer and wider than the 22 Long Rifle cartridge.

The 22MRF cartridge is popular for hunting small game like squirrels, rabbits, and coyotes, as well as for target shooting and varmint control. It can be fired in firearms chambered for the 22MRF, such as rifles, handguns, and revolvers.

Compared to the 22 Long Rifle, the 22MRF has a higher velocity and more energy, which gives it a flatter trajectory and better performance at longer distances. However, its higher cost and lower availability can make it less practical for some shooters.
