What is iss?

The International Space Station (ISS) is a modular space station in low Earth orbit. It is a multinational collaborative project involving five participating space agencies: NASA (United States), Roscosmos (Russia), JAXA (Japan), ESA (Europe), and CSA (Canada).

It serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory in which crew members conduct experiments in various fields, including:

  • Biology
  • Human physiology
  • Physics
  • Astronomy
  • Meteorology

The ISS has been continuously inhabited since November 2000. The crew usually consists of astronauts from the participating space agencies, who stay for several months to conduct research and maintain the station. The station is supplied by various cargo%20ships such as Progress, SpaceX Dragon, and Cygnus. The ISS orbits Earth at an altitude of approximately 400 kilometers (250 miles) and travels at an average speed of 27,600 kilometers per hour (17,155 mph), completing roughly 15.5 orbits per day.
