What is acridones?

Acridones are a class of organic compounds that contain a molecular structure composed of three fused rings: two benzene rings and a lactone ring. Acridones display strong fluorescence properties which make them useful compounds in applications such as chemical sensors, molecular probes, and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). They have also been used in the pharmaceutical industry as potential anticancer, antibacterial, and antifungal agents. Some important acridones include quinacridone, acridone orange, and RBBR (resorcinol bisbenzyl ether).
