What is aerodactylus?

Aerodactylus is a genus of pterosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 150 million years ago. It was a small, carnivorous flying reptile with a wingspan of around 1.5 meters.

Aerodactylus had a long, pointed skull with sharp teeth, which it used to catch and eat small prey such as fish and insects. It had a lightweight, hollow skeleton and large wings that allowed it to soar through the air and hunt for food.

Fossil evidence suggests that Aerodactylus had a well-developed flapping flight capability, similar to modern birds. It likely spent a significant amount of time flying in search of food and avoiding predators.

Aerodactylus is known from fossils found in Germany, France, and Portugal. It is one of the earliest known pterosaurs and provides valuable insight into the evolution and diversity of flying reptiles during the Jurassic period.
