What is agbalumo?

Agbalumo, also known as African star apple, is a fruit native to West Africa. It is commonly found in Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon. The fruit has a similar appearance to a small mango, with a green, leathery skin and a round shape, approximately the size of a golf ball. When ripe, the skin turns a yellow-orange color and is easily peeled away to reveal a juicy, white pulp.

Agbalumo is a highly nutritious fruit, rich in vitamins and minerals including vitamin C, magnesium, and calcium. The fruit is also known to have anti-inflammatory properties and is used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments such as diarrhea, high blood pressure, and fever.

Agbalumo is consumed fresh, and can be eaten alone or used in various recipes such as smoothies, ice cream, or jams. The fruit is seasonal and is only available for a short period between December and April.
