What is akijutsu?

Akijutsu is a martial art that originated in Japan and has developed over centuries as a form of self-defense and combat training. Akijutsu is also referred to as "Aiki-Jujutsu" or simply "Aiki" and translates to "the way of harmonizing with energy." The martial art involves a combination of various techniques, including strikes, throws, joint locks, pressure points, and striking vital points to incapacitate an opponent to defend oneself. Akijutsu emphasizes the use of leverage, strategy, and timing over brute strength, making it suitable for people of all ages and sizes. Training in Akijutsu typically involves partner exercises and close-quarters combat scenarios, allowing practitioners to develop quick reflexes, agility, and situational awareness. Akijutsu is also often taught with a focus on spiritual development, emphasizing principles such as compassion, humility, and respect.
