What is alecto?

Alecto is one of the three Furiae or Furies in Greek mythology. She is the Fury of endless anger and torture. She is also known as the Unresting One, and her name means "unceasing" or "endless." In mythology, Alecto is responsible for punishing those who have committed crimes such as murder, treason, murder of family, and oath-breaking. She is often depicted as having snakes for hair and carrying a whip or dagger. In Dante's Inferno, Alecto is one of the Furies who guards the entrance to the Seventh Circle of Hell.
