What is allt-a-bhainne?

Allt-a-bhainne is a Scottish whisky distillery located in the Speyside region. The name means "burn of milk" in Gaelic, referring to the nearby stream that once provided water for the distillery. It was founded in 1975 by the whisky blending company Chivas Brothers, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard.

Allt-a-bhainne is a key component in Chivas Regal and Ballantine's blends. Most of the whisky it produces is matured in American oak casks before being blended, with a smaller amount aged in ex-Sherry casks.

The distillery has a capacity of 4 million litres of alcohol production annually, making it a medium-sized distillery. The water used in the production process comes from the Ben Rinnes mountain, which is famous for its high mineral content.

Allt-a-bhainne has a reputation for producing light and fruity whiskies with citrus and vanilla notes. The distillery has limited production runs and doesn't offer its own brand of whisky for sale, making its single malt whiskies hard to find on the market.
