What is almogavares?

The Almogavares were a group of warriors from the Crown of Aragon who fought during the Middle Ages. They were known for their bravery, combat skills, and innovative tactics. They were particularly effective in guerrilla warfare, raiding enemy territory, and ambushing enemy forces. The Almogavares played a significant role in the Reconquista, the Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule. They were also prominent during the Crusades, fighting in various campaigns across the Mediterranean. The name "Almogavares" comes from the Arabic word "al-mugawir," meaning "who carries things on his back," because they were known for their agility and ability to carry heavy loads.
