What is altcoin?

Altcoin is a term used to describe any cryptocurrency that is not Bitcoin. There are thousands of altcoins in existence, with new ones being created every day. Some popular altcoins include Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, and Dash. Altcoins often have different features and use cases than Bitcoin, such as smart contract capabilities, faster transaction times, or privacy-focused features. Altcoins can be traded on cryptocurrency exchanges and often have their own dedicated communities and development teams. However, altcoins can also be riskier investments than Bitcoin due to their lower market caps and potential for price volatility.
