What is anabaseine?

Anabaseine is a naturally occurring alkaloid found in plants such as Anabasis aphylla and A. hirta. It is also a potent agonist at various nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subtypes, including α7 and α4β2. It has shown potential therapeutic effects for various neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, and depression. Anabaseine's mechanism of action involves increasing levels of acetylcholine by binding to and stimulating nicotinic receptors in the brain. Its use is still in the experimental phase, and more research is necessary to determine its safety and efficacy as a therapeutic drug.
