What is ancyloceras?

An ancyloceras is an extinct genus of ammonite that lived during the late Jurassic and early Cretaceous periods, approximately 165 to 100 million years ago. It had a distinctive shell shape, with a coiled, tightly wound shell that was often heavily ribbed. The name "ancyloceras" comes from the Greek words "ankulos" meaning "crooked" and "keras" meaning "horn", which refers to the curved, horn-like shape of the shell. Ancyloceras fossils are commonly found in marine sedimentary rocks worldwide, and they provide important insights into the ancient marine ecosystems of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
