What is anglo-arab?

The Anglo-Arab is a horse breed resulting from a cross between a Thoroughbred and an Arabian horse. The breed combines the speed and athleticism of the Thoroughbred with the endurance, stamina, and refinement of the Arabian.

Characteristics:

  • Appearance: Anglo-Arabs typically exhibit a refined appearance, inheriting the elegant features of both parent breeds. They are generally well-proportioned with a clean-cut head, strong neck, and a deep chest. Their conformation reflects a blend of both breeds, showing qualities desirable in sporting horses.
  • Temperament: They are known for their intelligence, trainability, and courage. They tend to be more amenable than purebred Thoroughbreds and possess more stamina than purebred Arabians.
  • Size: They typically stand between 15 and 16.3 hands (60 to 67 inches, 152 to 170 cm).
  • Color: They can be found in various colors, including bay, chestnut, gray, and black.

Uses:

Anglo-Arabs excel in a variety of equestrian disciplines, particularly:

  • Eventing: Their athleticism, stamina, and courage make them ideal for the demands of eventing.
  • Endurance Riding: Their Arabian heritage provides stamina, while the Thoroughbred influence adds speed.
  • Show Jumping: Their agility and athleticism make them competitive in show jumping.
  • Dressage: They can also perform well in dressage due to their trainability and elegance.

Breeding:

For a horse to be officially registered as an Anglo-Arab, there are generally breed registry requirements concerning the percentage of Thoroughbred and Arabian blood. Typically, the percentage must fall between 25% and 75% Arabian blood. Different countries and registries may have specific rules.
