What is at4?

The AT4 is a Swedish 84mm unguided, man-portable, single-shot, disposable, recoilless smoothbore weapon built by Saab Bofors Dynamics (previously Bofors Anti-Armour Systems). It is intended to give infantry units a means to destroy or disable armored vehicles and fortifications, though it is not generally effective against modern main battle tanks (MBTs) unless fired at vulnerable areas or used in urban combat. The AT4 is a direct fire weapon, meaning it relies on the operator to aim and fire directly at the target.

Key features of the AT4 include:

  • Portability: It's lightweight and easy for a single soldier to carry and operate.
  • Ease of Use: Minimal training is required due to its simple design and disposable nature.
  • Effectiveness: While not a tank killer, it is still effective against lighter armor and fortifications.
  • Disposable: After firing, the launcher is discarded, reducing logistical burden.
