What is ballchasing?

Ballchasing is a term used in the game Rocket League to describe a gameplay style where a player constantly pursues the ball without considering their positioning or the positioning of their teammates. This can lead to chaos on the field as players collide with each other or all cluster around the ball, leaving important areas of the field undefended.

Ballchasers often prioritize making contact with the ball over team strategy or game awareness, and may ignore opportunities to set up goals or defense positions in favor of seeking out the ball at all times. This style of play can be effective in some situations, especially when paired with skilled players who can adapt to unpredictable gameplay. However, it can also hinder team coordination and lead to frequent goals by the opposing team.

In competitive play, ballchasing is generally regarded as a less effective strategy compared to more measured and strategic gameplay approaches, such as rotating positions and maintaining awareness of team positioning and the game state.
