What is banglamukhi?

Banglamukhi is a Hindu goddess worshipped primarily in the northern and eastern parts of India. Also known as Devi or Shakti, Banglamukhi is believed to be one of the ten Mahavidyas, or wisdom goddesses, in Hinduism.

Her name is derived from two words – Bangla (the Bengali word for Bengal) and Mukhi (which means “faced”). This goddess is said to have originated in Bengal, and is depicted with a fierce countenance and golden complexion. She is often shown sitting on a lotus, with a club in her right hand and a noose in her left.

Her temple is located in Kapila in the bank of river Pingla in West Bengal. The temple is very famous and it attracts a large number of devotees throughout the year, especially during Navratri and Diwali.
