What is belenus?

Belenus was a Celtic god worshipped in Gaul and Britain. He was associated with the sun, healing, and fertility. Belenus was often depicted as a bearded man with rays of light radiating from his head, symbolizing the sun. He was believed to bring warmth, light, and growth to the land.

In Celtic mythology, Belenus was also associated with fire, purification, and prophecy. He was often invoked for protection, healing, and good fortune. Belenus was particularly revered at sacred springs and healing shrines, where people would seek his blessings for health and well-being.

The worship of Belenus spread throughout the Celtic world, and his cult continued to be popular even after the Roman conquest of Gaul and Britain. Many temples and altars dedicated to Belenus have been discovered across Europe, indicating the widespread veneration of this ancient deity. Although much of the original beliefs and practices associated with Belenus have been lost to history, his name and legacy continue to be remembered in modern times.
