What is bidil?

Bidil is a drug used to treat heart failure, particularly in African American and other people who have advanced heart failure. It contains a combination of two active ingredients: isosorbide dinitrate and hydralazine hydrochloride. It works by dilating blood vessels, reducing the workload on the heart, and improving blood flow to the heart and other organs. Bidil is usually taken by mouth three times a day. It is important to note that Bidil is not recommended for use in people with mild to moderate heart failure or those with normal heart function. It is also not recommended for use in people of non-African American descent. Side effects of Bidil may include headaches, dizziness, and low blood pressure. It should not be taken with certain medications, such as sildenafil, due to the risk of dangerous interactions.
