What is bmd-1?

The BMD-1 is a Soviet airborne amphibious tracked infantry fighting vehicle. It was developed in the 1960s as a replacement for the BMD-63 and entered service with the Soviet Army in the early 1970s.

The BMD-1 is armed with a 73mm 2A28 Grom low-pressure smoothbore gun, a 7.62mm PKT machine gun, and a retractable launcher for the 9M113 Konkurs anti-tank guided missile. It has a crew of three and can carry up to five infantry soldiers.

The BMD-1 is powered by a 300 hp 5D-20 5-cylinder diesel engine, giving it a top speed of 80 km/h on the road and 45 km/h off-road. It has a range of around 500 km and can ford rivers and other bodies of water thanks to its amphibious capabilities.

The BMD-1 saw combat in various conflicts around the world, including the Soviet war in Afghanistan, the Iran-Iraq War, and the First Chechen War. It remains in service with several countries today, including Russia, Ukraine, and North Korea.
