What is breakout?

Breakout is a classic arcade game that was first released in 1976 by Atari. It is a single player game in which the objective is to use a paddle to bounce a ball and break through a wall of bricks. Each brick that is broken earns the player points, and the game becomes progressively more difficult as the wall of bricks moves down the screen and the ball speeds up. The game is over when the player misses the ball with the paddle and it falls off the bottom of the screen. Breakout has been widely popular and has been remade on various platforms over the years.
