What is bromethalin?

Bromethalin is a powerful neurotoxin that is commonly used as a rodenticide to control pest populations such as rats and mice. It works by disrupting the functioning of the central nervous system, leading to paralysis and eventual death in the affected rodents.

Bromethalin is highly toxic to mammals, birds, and other non-target species. Ingesting even small amounts of the poison can be fatal, and there is no known antidote for bromethalin poisoning.

Symptoms of bromethalin poisoning in animals may include tremors, paralysis, seizures, difficulty breathing, and ultimately death. Treatment for poisoning is usually focused on supportive care to manage symptoms and prevent further damage.

Due to its high toxicity and potential for harm to non-target species, bromethalin is regulated by many countries and should be used with caution and in accordance with local regulations. Alternative, less toxic methods of pest control should be considered whenever possible to minimize the risk of unintended harm.
