What is bulldogging?

Bulldogging, also known as steer wrestling, is a rodeo event where a rider, known as a bulldogger, jumps off a horse onto a steer and wrestles it to the ground. The goal is to control the animal's momentum and bring it to a stop as quickly as possible. The time is measured from when the steer is released from the chute until the bulldogger brings it to the ground. Although bulldogging originated as a practical skill for cattle ranchers, it has evolved into a popular competitive sport with strict rules for animal welfare. It requires strength, agility, and precise technique. The bulldogger must grab the steer by the horns and twist its neck to the side to bring it down. It is considered one of the most dangerous rodeo events due to the high risk of injury to both the animal and the rider. However, with proper training and equipment, it can be performed safely.
