What is burbon?

Bourbon is a type of American whiskey that is made primarily from corn and aged in charred oak barrels. It must be made in the United States to be considered bourbon and typically comes from Kentucky, although it can be made in other states as well.

Bourbon has a distinctive flavor profile that often includes notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak, as well as a smooth and slightly sweet taste. It is a popular spirit for sipping neat or on the rocks, as well as for use in cocktails like the classic Old Fashioned or Mint Julep.

To be considered bourbon, the whiskey must meet certain legal requirements, such as being made from at least 51% corn, distilled to no more than 160 proof, and aged in new charred oak barrels. It must also be bottled at no less than 80 proof.
