What is ca-125?

CA-125 is a protein that is found in higher levels in the blood of women with certain types of cancers, including ovarian, fallopian tube, and endometrial cancer. It is often used as a marker to monitor the progression of these cancers and track response to treatment. However, CA-125 can also be elevated in non-cancerous conditions such as pregnancy, endometriosis, or pelvic inflammatory disease. As such, CA-125 is not a definitive diagnostic test and should be used in conjunction with other diagnostic tools such as imaging and biopsies.
