What is cangue?

A cangue is a wooden collar traditionally used in China and other East Asian countries as a form of punishment. It is a heavy, square wooden board that is worn around the neck, with holes for the head and hands to fit through. The cangue is typically engraved with the name of the crime committed by the wearer.

The cangue was often used as a form of public humiliation and punishment, with the wearer forced to wear it for a certain period of time as a form of shame. In some cases, the cangue was also used as a method of execution, with the wearer being left to die of starvation or exposure while restrained in the device.

While the use of cangues has largely fallen out of practice in modern times, they are still sometimes used in certain countries as a form of punishment for minor crimes or as a way to publicly shame individuals.
