What is canter?

Canter is a three-beat gait of a horse. It is a more controlled and faster version of the trot, and is often used in horse riding competitions. In the canter, the horse moves with one hind leg and the opposite front leg landing together, followed by the other hind leg and then the other front leg. This creates a rhythmic rocking motion that propels the horse forward. Canter can be performed at different speeds, ranging from a slow, collected canter to a fast, extended canter. It is important for a rider to have good balance and control of the horse in the canter, as this gait can be difficult to sit and control for a beginner.
