What is carregado?

Carregado is a parish in the municipality of Alenquer, located in the district of Lisbon, Portugal. It has a population of around 9,000 people. The name "Carregado" means "loaded" in Portuguese, and it is thought to come from the fact that the region was an important center for the transportation of goods by boat up and down the river Tagus.
