What is cembalon?

The Cembalon is a keyboard instrument used in traditional Indonesian music. It is a modern variation of the traditional Gamelan instrument, the celesta. The Cembalon has a similar keyboard layout to a piano but uses metal keys that are struck with wooden mallets. Its sound is characterized by a shimmering, bell-like quality and its range varies depending on the size of the instrument. The Cembalon is often used in conjunction with other Gamelan instruments to create a rich and complex sound. It is commonly played in ensembles at religious ceremonies, festivals, and other cultural events in Indonesia.
