What is champus?

CHAMPUS, the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services, is a health care program for active and retired members of the uniformed services, as well as their families. It was established in 1966 and is managed by the United States Department of Defense (DoD).

CHAMPUS provides health insurance coverage for a wide range of medical services, including hospital stays, doctor visits, prescription drugs, mental health services, and more. The program is available to eligible service members, retirees, and their families, and covers medical expenses that are not covered by other insurance plans.

In recent years, CHAMPUS has undergone several changes, including a name change to TRICARE (formerly known as CHAMPUS) and the expansion of coverage options for beneficiaries. Today, the program offers multiple health care plans to meet the needs of its diverse group of beneficiaries.
