Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud, often referred to as D. Y. Chandrachud, is an Indian judge who currently serves as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI). He assumed office on November 9, 2022.

Before becoming the CJI, Justice Chandrachud served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India from May 13, 2016. Prior to his elevation to the Supreme Court, he was the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and a Judge of the Bombay High Court.

Justice Chandrachud is known for his progressive and liberal judgments, and his views on individual liberties and constitutional law. He has been a part of several landmark judgments, including those related to the right to privacy, gender justice, and freedom of expression.
