In the early 19th century, the region was incorporated into the Russian Empire and later became part of the Soviet Union. In 1957, it was divided into several administrative districts within the Soviet republics of Adygea, Karachay-Cherkessia, and Kabardino-Balkaria. Today, Cherkessia is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, traditional music and dance, and rich history. However, the region has also been affected by conflict and political tensions in recent years.
