What is chiguiro?

Chiguiro, also known as the capybara, is the largest rodent in the world and is native to South America. They are typically found in swampy regions and near bodies of water, as they are excellent swimmers.

Chiguiros have a thick, coarse brown fur and webbed feet, which help them navigate through water and mud. They are herbivores, feeding on grasses and aquatic plants.

These rodents are social animals and live in groups of up to 100 individuals, led by a dominant male. They are known for their friendly and docile nature, often allowing humans to approach them without fear.

Chiguiros are not considered an endangered species, but they are protected in some regions due to habitat loss and hunting by humans for their meat and fur. In countries like Colombia, they are even considered a national symbol and protected by law.
