What is choriostoma?

Choriostoma is a genus of small, globular or disc-shaped marine gastropod mollusks in the family Xenophoridae. They are commonly known as carrier shells, due to their habit of attaching small objects to their shells with cement-like secretions. These objects can include pieces of coral, shells, and even small stones. Choriostoma species can be found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide, living in shallow marine environments such as coral reefs and rocky shores. They are generally not considered to be of economic importance but are sometimes collected for their unique appearance and the interesting objects they carry on their shells.
