What is cleve?

Cleve Moler is a mathematician and computer programmer best known as one of the creators of MATLAB. He is also the founder and chairman emeritus of MathWorks.

  • MATLAB: Moler's most significant contribution is arguably MATLAB, a high-level programming language and numerical computing environment widely used in science, engineering, and finance.
  • MathWorks: He co-founded MathWorks, the company that develops and markets MATLAB and Simulink. He served as chief scientist and chairman.
  • Linear Algebra Education: Moler has been a strong advocate for Linear%20Algebra%20Education. He is the author of the book "Numerical Computing with MATLAB" and has contributed significantly to numerical methods and software.
  • Early Computing: Before MATLAB, Moler developed the EISPACK and LINPACK software packages, which were influential in the development of numerical linear algebra.

He received a B.A. from California Institute of Technology in 1961 and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1967. He has held professorships at the University of Michigan, Stanford University, and the University of New Mexico.
