What is dampoort?

Dampoort is a district in the city of Ghent in Belgium. It is situated in the eastern part of the city and is bordered by the Gentbrugge, Sint-Amandsberg and Oud Gentbrugge districts. The name ‘Dampoort’ comes from the old city gate that was located in this area and served as the entrance and exit for travelers coming from or going to Damme and Bruges.
