Daniel Pelka was a four-year-old boy from Coventry, England, who was abused and eventually murdered by his mother, Magdelena Luczak, and her partner, Mariusz Krezolek, in March 2012. The abuse included physical beatings, food deprivation, and imprisonment in a locked box called the "punishment bin." Daniel's emaciated body was found in the couple's apartment six months after his death.
Luczak and Krezolek were both sentenced to life in prison for murder in 2013. The case sparked outrage and raised questions about the systemic failures of social services to protect vulnerable children. In the aftermath of Daniel's death, the British government launched a review of child protection services and implemented reforms to improve the system. Daniel's tragic death also led to a rise in public awareness of child abuse and neglect in the UK.
