What is decantes?

Decanters are vessels used to serve wines or spirits, typically bottled liquors such as whiskey, brandy, or cognac. They are designed with a narrow neck, a wide base, and a stopper or lid to hold the liquid inside. Decanters are often made from glass or crystal, but can also be made from other materials such as porcelain, ceramic, or metal.

The main purpose of decanting is to oxygenate the wine or spirit, allowing it to breathe and release its full aroma and flavor. This is particularly important for older wines, which may have sediment or cork particles that need to be separated from the liquid. Decanting can also improve the taste of younger wines by softening their tannins and giving them a smoother finish.

Some popular types of decanters include the ship decanter, which has a unique shape resembling a ship, the square decanter, which has a square or rectangular base, and the carafe, which is a smaller, more casual version of a decanter often used for water or juice.

In addition to its functional purpose, decanters are often considered a decorative piece of glassware, with intricate designs and patterns that can add elegance and style to any bar or dining table.
