What is demra?

Demra is an upazila, or administrative region, in Dhaka District, Bangladesh. It is located on the eastern side of Dhaka, and is bounded by the Turag River to the west and the Balu River to the east. It has an area of 48.56 square kilometers and a population of approximately 350,000 people.

Demra is primarily an industrial area, with many factories and production facilities located within the upazila. The main industries include ceramics, textile, and garment manufacturing. It is also home to several agricultural communities that produce crops such as rice, jute, and vegetables.

The infrastructure in Demra is relatively poor, with limited access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare. However, recent development projects have aimed to improve the quality of life in the area, including the construction of a new hospital and several schools.

There are also several important landmarks in Demra, such as the historic Boro Katra, a marketplace built during the Mughal era, and the Hajiganj Fort, a 17th-century fortress located on the banks of the Turag River.
