A diamante is a 7-line poem with a diamond shape. The first and last lines are nouns that are opposites of each other. The second and sixth lines are adjectives describing the first and last nouns. The third and fifth lines are verbs that connect the different aspects of the nouns. The fourth line consists of two nouns that are related to both the first and last words. The diamante poetry format was developed in the 1960s by Iris Tiedt and has become a popular way to express observations and thoughts in a concise and structured way. It is often used in schools to teach poetry writing skills to students, and also in creative writing workshops.
