What is didicoy?

Didicoy is a term used in the United Kingdom to refer to a group of people who are mostly Romani Gypsies but with non-Romani, typically Irish Traveller, ancestry. They are considered to be part of the Gypsy and Traveller community, but have a somewhat separate identity due to their mixed heritage. The term didicoy comes from the Romani word "didikai," which means outsider. Didicoy may also be called "half-and-halfs" or "mixed travellers." They often live a nomadic lifestyle, traveling in caravans and staying in different campgrounds and areas. Didicoy face discrimination and prejudice, like other Gypsy and Traveller groups, and often face challenges in accessing education, healthcare, housing, and employment.
