What is dilly?

There are a few different things that could be referred to as "dilly," so here are a few possibilities:

  • Dill: Dill is a herb that is commonly used in cooking, particularly in Scandinavian and Eastern European cuisines. The leaves and seeds of the dill plant are both used for flavoring, and dill is often used to add a tangy, slightly sweet flavor to dishes like pickles, fish, and potato salads. Dill is also believed to have some health benefits; it has been used traditionally as a digestive aid and to calm the stomach.
  • Dilly bars: Dilly bars are a type of frozen dessert that are sold by Dairy Queen. They consist of vanilla soft serve ice cream coated in a layer of chocolate, and they are commonly served on a stick. The name "Dilly" reportedly comes from a wildflower that grew near the original Dairy Queen location in Kankakee, Illinois.
  • Dilly bags: Dilly bags are traditionally used by Indigenous Australians as a way to carry food and other items. They are typically made from plant materials like the fibres of the pandanus or kurrajong trees, and are woven in a spiral pattern to create a cylindrical shape. Dilly bags are still used today by Indigenous communities for cultural practices and traditional ceremonies.
