What is discid?

A Disc ID (disc identification number) is a unique identifier assigned to an audio CD when it is manufactured. The Disc ID is based on a combination of the CD's length, track timings, and other information encoded on the disc. This identifier is used to associate the CD with its specific release. The Disc ID can be useful for identifying and organizing an audio collection, as well as for retrieving information about the CD from online databases. Some popular media players and software applications use Disc IDs to automatically retrieve album information and track listings for CDs that are inserted into a computer's optical drive.
