What is diyas?

Diyas are traditional oil lamps used in South Asian countries, particularly in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. They are made from clay and are typically filled with oil or ghee, with a cotton wick inserted to provide light.

Diyas are commonly used during festivals and religious ceremonies, such as Diwali, the festival of lights. They are lit and placed in rows or patterns to create a beautiful display of light and color.

In addition to their decorative and religious significance, diyas are also believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck and prosperity to the household. It is a common practice to light diyas in front of deities or in puja rooms to invoke blessings.

In recent years, diyas have also been modernized and are now available in various designs, colors, and materials such as metal, glass, and ceramic. They are not only used for religious purposes but also as decorative items in homes and gardens.
