What is dotmatrix?

A dot matrix printer is a type of impact printer that uses a grid of tiny pins to create text and images on a page. The pins hit an inked ribbon, transferring the ink to the paper to make the printed characters.

Dot matrix printers were widely used in the 1980s and 1990s for printing documents, invoices, and receipts. They were popular for their low cost, durability, and ability to print multi-part forms.

However, dot matrix printers have largely been replaced by faster and higher-quality inkjet and laser printers. They are still used in some industries, such as for printing shipping labels and receipts in retail environments.

Dot matrix printers come in different sizes and resolutions, with higher resolution printers producing sharper and more detailed images. They can also print in different colors, though color dot matrix printers are not as common as monochrome ones.
