What is durandal?

Durandal is a legendary sword from medieval European folklore. It is said to have been wielded by the legendary knight Roland, who was one of the Twelve Peers of Charlemagne's court.

According to legend, Durandal was crafted by the smith Wayland the Smith using a piece of the lance that pierced the side of Jesus Christ during the Crucifixion. The sword is said to be indestructible and could cut through any object. It also possessed magical properties and was believed to contain a fragment of the True Cross.

Durandal is also featured in the epic poem "The Song of Roland," where it was used by Roland to fight off waves of attackers during the Battle of Roncevaux Pass. In the poem, the sword was said to light up with flames when wielded by a worthy knight.

Today, the name Durandal is still used in popular culture, particularly in video games and movies, where it is often depicted as a powerful and magical sword.
