What is erose?

Erose refers to a type of soil erosion that occurs due to the detachment and movement of individual soil particles by water, wind or gravity. This type of erosion is typically associated with steep slopes, heavy rainfall and sparse vegetation cover. Erosion can result in the loss of valuable topsoil, decreased fertility, and changes in soil structure and composition. Additionally, erosion can also lead to environmental issues such as increased sedimentation in waterways, reduced water quality and damage to infrastructure such as roads and buildings. Control measures for erose include terracing, contour plowing, reforestation, and the use of erosion-control structures such as retaining walls and soil stabilization mats.
