Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, commonly known as Eusébio, was a Portuguese soccer player who was born on January 25, 1942, in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique (now Maputo). He passed away on January 5, 2014, in Lisbon, Portugal. Eusébio is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. He spent most of his career playing for Benfica, where he won numerous domestic and international titles. He also played for several other teams, including the Portuguese national team. Eusébio scored a total of 733 goals in 745 matches throughout his illustrious career. He was known for his impressive pace, dribbling skills, and powerful shots. Eusébio won the Ballon d'Or in 1965, was named European Footballer of the Year in 1968, and was included in the FIFA World Cup All-Time Team in 1994. He is considered a national hero in Portugal and was posthumously awarded the highest Portuguese honor, Order of the Infante Dom Henrique, in recognition of his contributions to the sport.
