What is fairy-locks?

Fairy-locks, also known as elf-locks or hobgoblin-locks, are tangled knots found in human hair that are said to be caused by fairies or other supernatural beings. According to folklore, fairies would sneak into people's homes at night and tangle their hair as they slept. The knots were believed to be difficult to untangle and were seen as both a blessing and a curse, with some people believing that they brought good luck while others thought they were a sign of misfortune.

In some traditions, fairy-locks were seen as a sign that the person was chosen by fairies for special gifts or abilities, while in others they were thought to be a punishment for disobeying fairy laws or disrespecting nature. Some people even believed that if you tried to comb out a fairy-lock, it would anger the fairies and bring bad luck.

In modern times, fairy-locks are often considered a natural occurrence that can be caused by hair texture, styling, or other factors. However, the folklore surrounding them continues to be a source of fascination for many people and remains a popular element in fantasy and fairy tale literature.
