What is fleer?

Fleer Corporation was a trading card company founded in 1923 by Frank H. Fleer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company initially started as a manufacturer of chewing gum, but later expanded into creating trading cards featuring various subjects such as sports figures, comic book characters, and entertainment personalities.

Fleer became well-known for its sports trading cards, particularly baseball cards, which became extremely popular among collectors. Some of the most iconic Fleer baseball card sets include the 1960 Fleer Baseball Greats and the 1981 Fleer Baseball set.

In the 1980s, Fleer gained recognition for introducing the popular Fleer Sticker Project, which featured stickers of professional athletes from various sports. This project became a hit among young sports fans and collectors.

In 1989, Fleer entered the basketball trading card market with its popular Fleer basketball cards featuring rookie cards of players like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Fleer's basketball cards quickly became sought after by collectors.

In 2005, the Fleer Corporation declared bankruptcy and was later acquired by Upper Deck Company, another trading card company. Today, Fleer trading cards are highly collectible and sought after by collectors worldwide.
