The company initially started as a manufacturer of chewing gum, but later expanded into creating trading cards featuring various subjects such as sports figures, comic book characters, and entertainment personalities.
Fleer became well-known for its sports trading cards, particularly baseball cards, which became extremely popular among collectors. Some of the most iconic Fleer baseball card sets include the 1960 Fleer Baseball Greats and the 1981 Fleer Baseball set.
In the 1980s, Fleer gained recognition for introducing the popular Fleer Sticker Project, which featured stickers of professional athletes from various sports. This project became a hit among young sports fans and collectors.
